In 2019 Stockport Town Council proposed a regeneration plan for the western outskirts of the town centre. The plan was drawn up and published for public comment, but Michael missed it.
The plan, drawn up by outside agencies, proposes a number of initiatives to bring affordable and fashionable architecture and urban design to creating a community outside the town centre, but Michael felt strongly that this was nowhere near good enough for the town’s future.
The consultation document issued by the Council had lots of pretty pictures but lacked a spirit of design which is already embodied in the older sections of the town and which could have been used as inspiration to extend across the entire town centre and beyond.
Here is a great opportunity that could be lost to the town unless action it take to embrace bolder opportunity.
