MichaelsPort – Tidal Power

MichaelsPort is located offshore, not on the coastline or banks of the Thames and therefore offers another opportunity – to create tidal power basins in, under or around the island.

Tidal power uses the rise and fall in the tide to drive electric generator turbines with the flow of water into and out of the basins.

This power is one of three contributions to the electric demands of the port to reduce outside dependency.

Surplus power is either sold into the national grid or stored for use at other periods.

The other two methods of power generation are total use of solar power on all exposed surfaces and wind turbines in nonhazardous locations.

Tidal basins might also be designed for local fish farms around and under the fringes of the Port.  This will require much further investigation.
